Book 1: Dragon Claw

Chapter 4

That morning Kelly awoke and saw that Anepanor had left. she was in the cave alone now and she began to explore. It was a lot larger than she had first thought with deep caverns leading deep underground, they didn’t look natural and were probably actually dug by the dragon himself. She continued on looking around astounded by the beautiful architecture. the stone of the cave was not just cut taken and thrown it was precise and purposefully dug she could see beautifully carved images in the stone walls. And the cave was not dark as it should be. there was a good lighting in the cave. she could see slits near the ceiling where white light was shining through. It looked like fluorescent lighting, but when she studied the slits more closely she found that it was actually natural light. the slits at the top corners of the cave allowed light from outside into the cave. and it wasn’t a small amount either there was definitely enough light in the cave. “I’ll have to ask about that.” she thought to herself.

She first met the dragon and thought he was a monster, then he comforted her and she thought he was just an intelligent animal, he communicated with her and she thought he was a person, but now that she saw his artwork, his architecture she started to realize that the dragon was not just a person, but he was a genius. Kelly kept walking through the cave, aware of her broken leg and hobbling on one foot as she took careful steps with her other leg.

Then she came across a stone carved image of of a dragon lying next to two eggs with another dragon bringing in a dead deer. Kelly went on further and she saw a small village with a parade and people celebrating. she stopped at these images because they reminded her of the story she was told the night before in the dream. She stood there for a while then heard a noise of thunderous flapping and a crashing sound as the dragon re entered the cave. she came out of the cavern and walked towards the dragon seeing that he had a dead caribou held in his mouth.

“So I guess that’s for breakfast?” Kelly asked.

The dragon dropped the caribou on the ground and looked at Kelly curiously. as if he had forgotten that he was sharing his food with her. He groaned as he grabbed a leg of the caribou and tore it off. Then he motioned for Kelly to come to him. She did and when she got close enough to grab the leg he didn’t let her have it and showed her the deer leg he gave her the night before. only one bite had been taken from it the rest was old and had spoiled over night.

“Oh, um I should explain something. Humans don’t eat meat raw we usually cook it first.” Kelly said.

After that the dragon acted as though he were hacking up a hairball and then blew out of his mouth a ball of fire which landed on the cave floor. Then he handed the caribou leg to the woman.

Kelly looked at the fire and looked at the leg. “Thanks I guess.” Kelly said, though she was just wondering how he expected her to cook the meat on the fire.
